While I am sure you all seriously are in love with Cortana after installing it on Windows Phone 8.1 in US or Outside it, if you ever wanted to bring back the boring Bing search back….how do you do it? You can do it the same way both on Widows Phone/ Windows 10 Mobile or for Windows 10 on desktop. I have posted details right after the phone part.
You may feel like turning Cortana off but then it will need a complete restart followed by some gimmicks after that. It’s a tedious process, so you would want to do it temporarily.
Windows 10 Mobile / Windows Phone
- Turn off location from phone settings.
- Press search button and you have Bing Vision instead of Cortana.
That said, the phone search will still works for you which explains why many people have this feature even without Cortana enabled. However you cannot execute any commands like Turn Off WiFi and so on.
You can instantly turn on Cortana by turning on the location but for her to work properly it might take a while as it collects your location and all the data back into her senses.
It’s interesting to see that Cortana is heavily based on location because it suggests everything, so, her phone features and interaction with a few other phone features could at least be completely offline. While there is nothing to blame here as she is still in beta, maybe in future we will see Cortana able to work on these features even offline
So are you going to disable Cortana for Bing Search ? If yes, I would be interested to know the reason in comments.
To turn off Cortana on Windows 10:
- Type Cortana on your Start Screen Search Bar.
- It should show you Cortana & Search Settings. Select it
- The first toggle button will turn off Cortana.
- Anytime you want to turn it on, follow the same steps
Remember Cortana is a service and it works the same way on Windows Phone/ Windows Mobile 10 and Windows 10.
